Has anyone tried Elbow Grease lately? This is one of the least costly cleaning agents you can find. Whether you are in rural or urban setting; in an underdeveloped county or the richest nation in the world, elbow grease is plentiful. It is available whenever and where ever you need it, can be taken out, used and put away for a later time. It’s efficiency may be reduced over long periods of time but with just a little rest and sunshine, it perks right up to it’s full strength and is ready for the next application.

Like so many things our grandparents used, we’ve forgotten about elbow grease. We’ve become used to the quick fixes; the instant stain removers, drain un-cloggers, scrubbing bubbles and bag-less suction. These things have been around for 50 or 60 years, elbow grease has been available since the beginning of humanity. The ancient Egyptians used elbow grease; in the dark ages and the depressions of modern societies elbow grease was the one thing that could always be found.

I’ve just finished cleaning a bathroom. The toilet had water and lime stains, the shower stall was brown and grimy, the grout between the tiles was some undeterminate color and the floor was….well the floor was dirty. The water wouldn’t drain properly and mold was growing around the windows.

Five years ago, I would have had it torn down, replaced all the fixings, put in a new shower stall, ripped out the plumbing and had it all redone. Today, just for fun, I decided to try elbow grease. Along with that I needed a plunger, some vinegar, a little lime juice, a pumice stone, two rags and a knee pad. Had I gone the first route I would have spent at least five thousand dollars, waited thirty to sixty days and gotten a bathroom that I loved. Using elbow grease, I spent nothing; I had all the ingredients; just normal household items, waited no time at all and got a bathroom that I love.

So the next time you see a mess, whip out the elbow grease. It’s safe, contains no toxins, can be found anywhere, it’s free and….it works.
